Action, adventure and personality

Active photography sessions are designed around your dog and can take place on or off lead in a suitable natural environment. We’ll work with the surroundings, your dog’s personality and their natural behaviour to create a varied collection of images.

Expect flying paws, muddy adventures, mid-stride moments, curious expressions and those quieter details that are easy to miss when you’re busy enjoying the walk.

There’s no need for your dog to be perfectly trained or able to pose on command. Patience, observation and understanding your dog are often far more important. We’ll take time to allow them to settle into the environment and capture natural moments rather than forcing them.

Experienced behind the camera

With experience as a professional RAF photographer and as a National Trust volunteer photographer, I bring an eye for timing, detail and composition to every session.

Fast-moving dogs can be challenging to photograph, particularly in woodland, changing light and uneven terrain. My approach combines high-speed action photography with patience and careful observation, allowing me to anticipate those split-second moments when everything comes together.

The result is more than simply a collection of photographs - it’s a visual record of your dog being themselves.

Where can we have the session?

We don't have fixed photography locations. We’ll discuss what would work best for you and your dog, taking into account their personality, confidence and the type of images you’d like.

Sessions can take place on or off lead in a suitable natural environment. If you would prefer a secure location where your dog can run freely, sessions can also be arranged in a secure dog field for an additional cost.

What can we capture?

Every dog is different, so no two sessions are the same. Depending on your dog and the environment, we may capture:

A session built around your dog

There’s no pressure for your dog to perform. Some dogs will spend the session racing around, while others need more time to explore and settle. We’ll work with what your dog gives us and allow them the space to be themselves.

If your dog is nervous, reactive or easily distracted, please let us know when booking. We can discuss suitable locations and approaches to help make the session as relaxed and positive as possible.

Your finished images

Sessions are 60 minutes, giving us plenty of time to explore, work with your dog and capture a range of images rather than rushing through a short shoot.

You’ll receive all edited images from your session, supplied digitally within 4 weeks.

Whether you want action shots that show just how fast your dog can move, beautiful portraits to treasure or photographs that capture the adventures you share together, Capture the Moment is about creating images that feel like your dog.

Health, Safety and Consent

The safety and wellbeing of you and your dog comes first. Before your session, you’ll be asked to complete a Health & Consent Form with relevant information about you and your dog. Dogs of any age are welcome, provided they are well enough to take part (for puppies or older dogs, we can adjust the session to meet their needs). If you have concerns about your dog’s health, mobility or ability to participate, please seek veterinary advice beforehand.

Your responsibility

You remain responsible for your dog at all times and must stay alert to other people, dogs, livestock and wildlife. Sessions may involve uneven, muddy or varied terrain, so appropriate clothing and footwear are recommended.

If your dog does not have reliable recall, or may not respond safely around distractions, we strongly recommend using a secure dog field, available at an additional cost. Off-lead photography will only take place where it is safe and appropriate to do so.

Photography & Image Use

Photographs will be taken during your session as part of the photography service. Selected images may be used by Nose and Paws Active on our website, social media and other promotional materials.

If you do not want your images used for promotional purposes, please let us know when completing your Health & Consent Form.

Your completed form must be received before your session can be confirmed.

FAQs

What type of photography do you offer?

Capture the Moment focuses on natural, active dog photography - from high-speed action and running shots to relaxed portraits, exploration and the quieter moments that show your dog’s personality.

Can I bring my family or more than one dog?

Yes. Family members can be included, and multiple dogs can be photographed. Please let us know when booking how many people and dogs will be attending so we can plan the session appropriately.

Can puppies or older dogs have a session?

Yes. Dogs of any age are welcome. Sessions are adapted to your dog's age, development, fitness and individual needs, and puppies or younger dogs won't be encouraged to undertake strenuous or repetitive exercise for photography.

How long is a session?

Active photography sessions last 60 minutes, giving us plenty of time to work with your dog, explore the surroundings and capture a varied collection of images.

How many photographs will I receive?

You’ll receive all edited images from your session, supplied digitally within 4 weeks of your photography session.

Can nervous or reactive dogs take part?

Absolutely. Nervous, anxious and reactive dogs are welcome. Let us know when booking so we can choose a suitable location and adapt the session to your dog.

A Health & Consent Form will be emailed after your booking enquiry and must be completed before your hike. Please disclose relevant health, injury, behavioural or other concerns for yourself or your dog. Outdoor activities carry nherent risks, so please seek appropriate medical or veterinary advice if you are unsure about you or your dog taking part.

We don't have set locations. We’ll discuss a suitable natural environment based on your dog, your preferences and the type of images you’d like. Sessions can be on or off lead where appropriate.

Bring anything your dog normally needs for an outdoor adventure, including water, treats and their usual walking equipment. Wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear for the terrain. If you have particular photographs or ideas in mind, feel free to discuss them with us before the session.
